The Vicar and The Thief Book Review

The Vicar and The Thief by Angela Johnson

My Review

Gilbert Fernley is a vicar. He enjoys being a vicar but suddenly is having chest pain and dizziness. His brothers and sisters-in-law bring him to London to “rest” or play matchmaker. He is introduced to a few ladies but only one captures his attention.

Eliza Davenport is from “new money” as they say in London society. Her family comes from servant background but is now part of society. Because she is from “new money” she is having bad luck with gaining suitors. A duchess decides to “help” her only if Eliza helps her in return by stealing items from different people. Eliza doesn’t want to but she becomes blackmailed and once she starts stealing she can’t stop because the duchess will tell on her, and the duchess’s stepson is there to keep her in line as well. So what will happen when the vicar falls for the thief?

What a fun story! I really enjoyed this one! I was pulled in by the title. I thought that an interesting pairing of a Vicar and a thief.  So it was fun to see how it played out. I really liked both Gilbert and Eliza. I felt bad for Eliza being blackmailed. The writing is very good. This was my first read by Angela Johnson and I will be reading more!  Overall I found this story cute and fun! Definitely recommend!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
